An unusual combination, you say, where did that name come from? Well, a good friend of mine passed away not too long ago. Ken Fell was an unusual man – always smiling (sometimes called “The big Buddha”), a positive word for everyone he met, and a man who lived his faith. We shared many laughs together until the day he finally succumbed to bone cancer. One of his favorite things to eat – every day as a child, and even as an adult – was a pickle and peanut butter sandwich. I’m not sure how he came up with that combination, but let me say I have tried it – once.
I have struggled since Ken’s death to find a way to allow the best of him to live on, and to share those qualities with others. Pickles and Peanut Butter is my attempt to share his humor, his optimism, and his faith with you.
Ken spent his final months on this earth at the Hospice House of Mid-Michigan. The people there were incredibly caring toward him, as well as helpful in every way toward us. I would like to thank each of the wonderful people there who helped to make Ken’s last days as easy as possible. I just can’t say enough about how good they were to all of us during such a difficult time. I don’t think I could ever work at a place like that, but I thank God that there are those that do.
