You probably already know that gymnastics originated with the ancient Greeks and Egyptians thousands of years ago, so I won't bore you with that history, unless you really want to know. Just tell me "I want to know more". Gymnastics as we know it today became popular only during the last couple of centuries. Read more about modern gymnastics events.

You're never too young and, for some, never too old to do gymnastics. This article is from NewYorkMetro.com, and it calls adult gymnastics "The best fun workout."

Feeling older and not moving as easily as you did 10 years ago? Read this interview with Phyllis Johnson, 13-year veteran of gymnastics at age 72!

But what about competitions, you ask. Glad you asked. Check out the results from the GMC VI Results, noting especially the men's rope climb.

While my favorite is the more traditional artistic gymnastics, many people enjoy watching the rhythmic gymnasts perform with ribbons, balls, hoops, and other apparatus. I'm always amazed at their flexibility.

But is that all there is to gymnastics? We've only just begun! Watch these Japanese men with their synchronized rhythmic gymnastics.

Have you ever heard of Inuit Rope gymnastics? Allunaariaqattaarneq, “games performed using harpoon line” (rope gymnastics), are known throughout the arctic. Rope gymnastics is an ancient Inuit form of sport, which demands and develops balance, strength, flexibility, coordination and pain tolerance. The exercises toughen the hands which may allow you to paddle long hours without developing blisters. Many of the maneuvers are extremely strenuous and painful. Performing them helps to build mental and physical toughness, qualities that were very useful for the hard life of a kayak hunter.

I'd have to say, although all my 3 kids have competed in gymnastics, the one type I am most familiar with has to be  House Gymnastics. These people actually have a web site devoted to the very thing I've been trying to get my kids to quit doing for years! (Not that I ever did any of these things when I was younger...)

Antigravity It's not just a word, it's a dance form.

"Innovative, swanky, and mind-boggling, AntiGravity defies any traditional gymnastics or dance origins it may have. Almost superhuman in stance, AntiGravity's artists concern themselves with conjuring graceful and shocking means of hoisting themselves into the air. In fact, much time and money goes into researching new aerial elements to incorporate into their performance. This troupe blurs the boundaries between the Olympics and performing art, the athletic and the absurd."
– The Village Voice – October 2002
