I've always loved my mother, but there was a time when I certainly thought I could do a much better job. Boy was I wrong! Of course, I think every kid thinks that - until one day they're the ones in the hot seat. It's been said that children don't come with instruction manuals - how true! I know my mother had no book to tell her how to deal with some of the things I managed to get into (which, for the sake of the not-so-innocent and the fact that my own children may read this, I will leave to the imagination). Sure, she probably didn't do everything exactly right, but I can tell you one thing for sure: she did the best that she could. And I think that I (and my four other siblings) have turned out pretty darn good! For those of you who have the perfect mothers - 3 well-balanced meals daily, perfectly disciplined, fun-filled family vacations, siblings who are always polite to each other, etc. - that's wonderful; thank God for your mother. But for those of you whose mothers have been less than perfect - thank God for her also. Realize that everything she did was out of love for you - even though it may have not been the way you would have liked to be loved. Realize also that she did the best that she could, and that's all we can ask from anyone. As for my own mother - perfect? No. Wonderful? Absolutely. Thank you, God, for my mother, and thank you, Mother, for me.
